Situation – Ordering a Meal

Waitress – Good evening gentlemen, a table for two?
John – Yes please.
Waitress – Here we are, this is your table. Would you like to take a seat?
John – Thank you very much.
Waitress – My pleasure. Here’s the menu. Would you like to order your drinks now?
John – I’ll have a lager please.
Waitress – A pint or a half?
John – A pint please.
Nick – and mine’s a water please.
Waitress – Sparkling or still?
Nick – Sparkling please.
……. a few minutes later
Waitress – Here are your drinks. Are you ready to order?
John – I would like soup of the day as a starter followed by steak and chips as the main course.
Waitress – How would you like your steak – rare, medium or well-done?
John – Medium please.
Nick – I’ll take an all season salad for my starter and the vegetarian pasty for my main course.
Waitress – Thank you for your order gentlemen.
……. after the main course
Waitress – How about a dessert?
John – No thanks. The meal was delicious and we’re quite full.
Waitress – That’s nice to hear.
John – Could I have the bill please?
Waitress – Certainly.
John – I need a receipt with VAT please?
Waitress – Of course sir, I’ll bring it now.

Kellnerin – Schönen guten Abend die Herren, ein Tisch für zwei Personen?
John – Ja, sehr gerne.
Kellnerin – So, da wären wir. Das ist Ihr Tisch. Bitte nehmen Sie Platz.
John – Vielen Dank.
Kellnerin – Gern geschehen. Hier ist die Speisekarte. Möchten Sie schon Getränke bestellen?
John – Ich hätte gerne ein helles Bier.
Kellnerin – Ein großes oder ein kleines Bier?
John – Ein Großes, bitte.
Nick – Und ich nehme ein Wasser, bitte.
Kellnerin – Mit oder ohne Kohlensäure?
Nick – Mit Kohlensäure, bitte.
……. wenige Minuten später:
Kellnerin – So, die Herren. Ihre Getränke, bitte schön! Haben Sie schon gewählt?
John – Ich hätte gerne als Vorspeise die Tagessuppe und anschließend als Hauptgericht
ein Steak mit Pommes.
Kellnerin – Wie hätten Sie gerne Ihr Steak, „englisch“, „medium“ order „durch“?
John – “Medium”, bitte.
Nick – Ich nehme als Vorspeise den Salat “Vierjahreszeiten” und die vegetarische Pastete als Hauptgericht.
Kellnerin – Vielen Dank für Ihre Bestellung.
……. nach dem Hauptgericht:
Kellnerin – Wünschen Sie einen Nachtisch?
John – Nein, danke. Das Essen war köstlich, aber wir sind satt.
Kellnerin – Das freut mich.
John – Würden Sie uns bitte die Rechnung bringen?
Kellnerin – Sicher, kommt sofort.
John – Ich bräuchte bitte auch einen Beleg mit Ausweis der Mehrwertsteuer.
Kellnerin – Selbstverständlich, bringe ich Ihnen sofort.
